About

Ed Melendez is a passionate follower of Jesus Christ, a worship pastor, musician, composer, and sound designer. His wealth of experience in music and worship-related ministries has helped him contribute to various contemporary and alternative ministry situations, including several original worship music projects.

Ed infuses many of his eclectic tastes with a keen ear for melody, and this is showcased in his diverse writing and arranging styles. But leading worship has been Ed’s passion for over the last decade. Helping to build up teams, train others, and help them find and use their gifts is what Ed often finds the most rewarding.

The Lord found and called Ed to salvation in the summer of 1991. It was there in a small church in Southern California that Ed would make his confession of faith and turn his life completely over to Christ. From that moment forward, Ed would use his God-given gifts as a leader, musician, composer, and arranger and find himself (through God’s providence) involved in several opportunities, including the ministry of worship. Ed believes in the power of prayer and praise and the beauty of bringing God’s people to the foot of the cross.

Originally from Southern California. Ed has been a music lover for as long as he can remember. He has extensive experience in ministries related to music, worship, recording, drama, video production, audio engineering, and digital media design.

Ed is a proactive minister of music. As a praise music director, he has built teams of people to facilitate a worship environment. In his career, Ed has encouraged a community that embraces music and worship. In addition, he urged others to join this rewarding ministry. These areas of ministry have been strong pillars of what Ed has engaged himself in as a worship leader. Having strong organizational skills and the ability to work with individuals of all ages and at all levels of their experience and expertise is one of Ed’s many coveted qualities.

Ed has been essential to building music ministries from the ground up. Ed has been fortunate enough to work with fellowships of all shapes and sizes, from larger multi-service congregations to more intimate family-centered fellowships. His gifts at finding the right fit and balance for each congregation have led him to work successfully with many denominations.

One of Ed’s many passions is taking the gift of praise out into the community to minister to those outside the church using music. Ed has participated in and launched several community events and has spearheaded many outreach opportunities for several congregations. These events include participating in the National Day of Prayer event held on the steps of the state capital. Set Free in the Park (an annual summer community event ). Thursday-hallelujah (a weekly event downtown incorporating multiple churches and musical groups, offering praise and worship). These and some local events are just a few examples of Ed’s desire to reach out to the community.

Ed loves his family. God introduced Ed to his wife, Sharon, in June 2019. God has continued to bless them on their life journey. They love ministry, travel, cooking, dancing, music, etc. Ed and his wife currently reside in Indiana.

A Personal Testimony

Growing up in a non-religious home, I didn’t have a lot of exposure to God. We only attended church on Easter and Christmas, and there wasn’t any consistent or profound practice of faith in our household. However, my siblings and I were sent to Sunday school as children, where we learned all the traditional Bible stories. While I found the stories interesting, I never felt a strong connection to them or to God.

Throughout my upbringing, my parents instilled in me a sense of self-reliance. As a teenager, I didn’t feel drawn to any particular church or spiritual community. I believed I was a good person with a strong sense of morality and a commitment to abstain from negative behaviors like drinking, smoking, and drug use. But there always seemed to be something lacking.

I have always believed that music was a gift bestowed upon me. It was a facet of myself that I could never quite explain. From a young age, I felt a deep passion for music that seemed to be ingrained in my very being. Even before I could play a single note on an instrument, I knew that music was destined to be an integral part of my life.

In my early 20s, a friend of mine who had worked on several musical projects with me invited me to attend his church. I had been invited to church on numerous occasions in the past, but I always declined. The only church I really remembered attending, aside from Sunday school, was a traditional Catholic church.

Despite my reservations, I decided to take my friend up on his offer and attend his church. I was pleasantly surprised by the welcoming atmosphere and the sense of community that I experienced there. The message resonated with me in a way that I had never experienced before.

As I sat there in the church’s courtyard, I found myself immediately drawn in. I vividly remember everyone in attendance being asked to offer up their prayers. In that moment, I decided to ask God to reveal Himself to me in some way, if He were truly real. Little did I know how quickly that prayer would be answered.

I continued to attend church and grow in my faith. I began to notice changes in my life. Within just a few weeks, I felt a newfound sense of peace and contentment. I found that I was becoming more patient and compassionate with those around me, and I felt more connected to the world around me.

Through prayer and reflection, I began to see the ways in which God was working in my life. I started to understand that my journey with faith was not just about attending church or learning about doctrine, but about developing a personal relationship with God. I found that my faith gave me the strength and guidance to navigate life’s challenges with grace and resilience.

After attending church on Easter Sunday, my life took a turn when I had to relocate due to a series of life-changing experiences. Despite the challenges, my friend and I continued to work on musical projects together. However, he told me that any future projects he would be involved in had to be Christian projects. Although I was not yet a Christian myself, I agreed to work on Christian projects with him.

We became roommates and I was invited to attend a weekly Bible study hosted by his parents. Despite my initial hesitation, I decided to join them. During these Bible studies, I witnessed God’s people praying, learning, working, and encouraging one another. It was a transformative experience for me, and I began to see the value in having a community of believers around me.

The people I met at the weekly Bible study were living examples of what it meant to be a Christian. They weren’t just talking the talk, but walking the walk. I was inspired by their faith and dedication to their beliefs.

I began to study the Bible more intently on my own and attended additional Bible studies on Monday and Wednesday nights. As I continued to learn, I felt that God was revealing Himself to me in new ways every day.

In the end, I made the decision to give my life over to Christ and become His follower. I made a confession of faith at the very same church where I had first prayed for God to reveal Himself to me.

My friend and I put our musical skills to use by leading worship services and starting new ministries and outreach programs. I was grateful for the opportunity to use my talents for a higher purpose and to help spread the message of God’s love and grace to others.

After attending Monday night Bible study at Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, my friend and I were inspired to start our own outreach program. We named it Wednesday Night Harvest, in honor of the inspiring music, fellowship, and Word that we experienced at the study led by Pastor Greg Laurie.

The outreach program was a great success, drawing in many people from the community who were searching for a deeper connection with God. It was amazing to see how music and the Word could bring people together and inspire them to live a more meaningful and purposeful life.

I became deeply invested in apologetics during this time, as I felt a strong desire to understand and defend my faith. God had instilled in me a passion for knowing what I believed and why, and I became an avid seeker of truth. As I continued to study and grow in my faith, I felt called to share what I had learned with others.

Eventually, I ended up at Calvary Chapel in Huntington Beach, where my friend led the music ministry. Once again, God used that time and those experiences to reveal so much to me. His timing is always perfect. I joined the Huntington Beach Calvary Worship Team, and as my friend started a family and moved on, I took over leading the worship ministry. I built up teams, ministered, and supported those in the ministry. Being given the opportunity to help bring friends to Jesus was an incredible blessing.

I have had the pleasure of working with amazing people and have been blessed with remarkable opportunities in many churches since God drew me elsewhere. His plan has always been perfect.

Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to lead worship in various churches, from small intimate gatherings to large conferences. Each opportunity has been a unique and humbling experience. I have seen firsthand how music can unite people and bring them closer to God. It has been an honor to use my gift to inspire and encourage others to worship and honor God in their own unique ways.

In addition to leading worship, I have also had the pleasure of mentoring and guiding aspiring musicians. Through workshops and one-on-one sessions, I have helped them discover and develop their own talents and gifts. Seeing their growth and progress has been incredibly fulfilling and rewarding.

Thanks to my God, as He has given me a passion to use music to glorify Him and proclaim His Good News. This is a lost world in need of a Savior and His love.

I am grateful to God for giving me the passion to use music to glorify Him and share His Good News. In a world that is lost and in need of a Savior, I feel blessed to have the opportunity to proclaim His love through music.

Over the years, I have been fortunate to guide and mentor others in writing and producing their own music. It brings me great joy to see them explore their own creative potential and find their unique path.

Additionally, being part of multiple outreach projects has been an incredible experience. It has allowed me to bring the body of Christ together and provide opportunities to share the Gospel with those who may not have heard it before.

I am truly grateful for all the opportunities and blessings that God has given me.
